| Adventures in Chi-Town: Kianna Goes to the Romance Slam Jam |
Greetings, Party People. I have recently
returned from a wonderful, magical place: the
Romance Slam Jam Conference 2008.
I left RDU International with my HCRW
chapter mate and brave traveling companion,
Marcia Colette. Not only is she great company,
she is a paranormal romance author who has
just released her debut, the breath stealing tale
she calls Unstable Environment. Check out her

Not only did I get to travel with Marcia, I had
the good fortune of having Lashaunda
Hoffman, mistress of Shades of Romance, as
my roommate! Imagine my surprise when a pie
eyed writer like myself got to spend her first
night in Rochelle Alers room!
Of course, anyone who knows me is aware
of my love for Beverly Jenkins. I must admit that
I stared at her a lot, but she is very
approachable and very sweet. She has a
genuine interest in helping other writers, and
now that I've met her, I love her even more.
So, I spent Thursday-Saturday honing my
craft in a wonderful array of workshops, the
highlight of which was Novelist's Boot Camp,
led by the oddly attired, but wholly
knowledgeable Todd Stone. You can view his
interesting ensemble on my photos page.
Going to the Slam Jam was the best
decision I've made so far in my writing career. I
had four requests for my full manuscript, one
from an agent, and three from publishers.
Here's hoping I'll be published soon!
